From January through May I completed an Advanced MNT course. It focused on various disease states and they each affect the nutrition care process. The course helped us understand current guidelines and research for each disease covered in the class.
Nutrition Care ProcessAs part of the course, I completed multiple nutrition care plan forms based on a case study book. They included case studies about celiac disease, heart failure, and pancreatitis. I also recorded an audio recording to go with the form for pancreatitis. Each gave me the chance to analyze the disease, and do additional reading in conjunction with each nutrition care plan.

Enteral and ParenteralPart of the course helped teach us how to develop plans for patients on enteral and parenteral nutrition. This helped reinforce our practicum experiences. I completed an assignment that gave example patients that needed a parenteral or enteral nutrition as part of the care plan. I was able to successfully complete the assignment, and it helped me think about the enteral and parenteral plans for patients more in depth.

Discussions and QuizzesTo help solidify our understanding of the concepts, the class consisted of multiple class discussion forums and individual quizzes. They helped ensure we had completed the reading, as well as gave us the chance to discuss different protocols and formularies each facility we were working in has.
