I was able to spend three weeks at a long term care facility helping the dietitian with charting and clinical tasks. The facility was small, with only 1 dietitian, which gave me the opportunity to be very involved. I was able to complete all of my required experiences during fall 2013.
ChartingThe advantage of doing this rotation at a small facility was I was able to do a large amount of charting. I was able to complete over 50 initial or quarterly evaluations. I completed a nutrition care process form for one of the residents. I also helped complete chart notes for patients who were being followed for weight loss. I assisted in writing orders. I was very involved in the nutrition care process.

Care ConferencesI was able to attend multiple care conferences during my time here. Some were held with the family, some with the resident, and some with both. Toward the end of my rotation, the dietitian allowed me to be the one who covered the nutrition information and diagnosis with the resident and their family.

Additional ExperiencesI was able to attend the all managers meeting every morning to hear updates on the residents. I was able to work with the speech language pathologist, and followed her work with her two main cases at that time. I also worked with nurses to get re-weights when needed. While there, a 3rd party auditor from Sodexo came to do an audit of the nutrition care charting as well as a food safety audit. She explained what she was looking for to me, and took a lot of time to help me understand the process of auditing.
