During my clinical experience I had the opportunity to work with a number of patients. I was able to do charting on hundreds of patients, as well as inpatient education. I worked with the multiple dietitians during my time. I was also able to help to develop tube feeding orders and TPN recommendations.

Case Study ProjectAs part of my time at the hospital, I chose a patient who was there for multiple weeks with chronic pancreatitis to do a case study on. His case was especially interesting because he came in on TPN and left on a tube feed. My case study involved following the patient for over two weeks and researching current treatment options. I then wrote a paper about the experience, completed a nutrition care plan form, and gave a presentation on current articles and our plan for the patient.

Research ReviewsWhile at the hospital, I was able to find 3 current nutrition research articles and present their outcomes to the dietitians at the hospital. One was on fruits and vegetables and cancer, one was on fatigue in breast cancer survivors, and the third was on vegetable consumption in people with diabetes.

Nutrition ArticlesDuring part of my time, my preceptors had me help them begin writing some nutrition articles. Every week, the hospital has nutrition articles published on their website for all the hospital staff to see. The dietitians I worked with will be publishing two in July. I wrote one article on healthy grilling, and another on coconut water.
