During my time with the health department, I was able to see multiple programs throughout the health department. I was able to do "ride alongs" with multiple people and shadow them for a half day to see them do their jobs.
Prenatal Plus NursesThe county has a program called prenatal plus that provides extra services for pregnant women who already have at least one child. As part of this program, some community health nurses do home visits to answer any questions the women may have, as well as give them information they may need. I was able to go along for a home visit with the nurses and see how they do their job.

Restaurant InspectorI was able to spend half a day with a county restaurant inspector. I was able to do two inspections with him. The first we went to had multiple violations and was a good opportunity to see what inspectors look for. The second inspection had only one minor issue that was corrected on site. It was a great example of what restaurants can look like.

Public Health EpidemiologistI was able to meet with the county's public health epidemiologist. I was able to learn what her job entails. I was also able to learn what problems exist in the community, and what challenges there are to change those problems. She also shared with me multiple resources to look up numbers and statistics for the county as well as state. Following the meeting with her and further research, I was able to complete a community needs assessment.

EFNEP/SNAP-Ed
I was able to spend the day with the EFNEP/SNAP-Ed educators and director for this area. I was able to help with a farmer's market they did a community event at as well as attend one of their trainings. I was able to learn about how they conduct their program and how other agencies can make referrals to the program. Pictures from the event are shown above.
