Over the past month, I’ve continued to learn through my clinical rotation. I am beginning to take on more patients in my day. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to charting, but I am starting to catch more with each patient. The dietitians have me do a lot of the inpatient counseling, whether it be for a low-fiber diet or for diabetes. It is great to be able to talk to individuals and be able to address their concerns.
I have also been able to sit in on multiple one-on-one outpatient appointments. There are three dietitians who do outpatient counseling, and another who teaches their monthly diabetes class. I have been able to observe all of them, and see how they each approach an appointment. I was also able to attend and help with the outpatient diabetes class. It is a six hour group class where they go over everything from what diabetes is to how to manage it with diet to what each medication does.
I’m still learning every day and am always excited to see what the day holds.
